Gabe Pineda, also known as Project G, is a rapper/singer from Stamford, CT. But more importantly, a good friend that I’ve known since highschool. When this music topic came up, I knew right away that I wanted to interview him on his music. This is what he had to say.
Thomas: Hello Gabe. Thank you for agreeing to the interview. Are you ready?
Gabe: Yeah man, let's do it.
Thomas: We’ll start off easy. How did you get into music?
Gabe: I’ve always loved music. I made my first song in senior year. Me and a couple of friends were in a class together and we started making music. I found it very fun. But even before that, I loved listening to music.
Thomas: How do you think your music influences your listeners?
Gabe: I believe in frequencies and vibrations so when I make my music I like to project good energy. I’m transferring my good energy to my listeners; whether it be hype or just a chill vibe.
Thomas: Who was/is your inspiration?
Gabe: I feel like I can split this question up into two parts. Tupac is my inspiration. Tupac was the one that got me into writing. Eminimen and Logic also inspired me. They got me into hip hop and helped me become accustomed to those kinds of beats.
Thomas: Who is your biggest support system for what you do?
Gabe: I’m definitely my biggest supporter and believer. You got to be your own. My friends and family help me as well. But overall, I’d say me.
Thomas: What motivates you to get up in the morning and keep improving yourself?
Gabe: That’s a good question. I’d have to say the feeling I get when I finish the song. The fact that I created that from scratch just means something. I made that.
Thomas: Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
Gabe: Definitely going to the gym. I love taking hikes, nature walks. In my free time I play videogames with my friends.
Thomas: What would be your dream collaboration?
Gabe: Oh wow. That’s hard. There’s just so many good artists. I love NF but my dream collab would probably be Iann Dior. Only because I feel like I can relate to him. I feel like we would synergize very well and I really like his music.
Thomas: How did you come to realise that music was the way forward for you?
Gabe: It kinda can go back to the question about what gets me motivated. It gives me purpose. It forces me to come out of my box. It forces me to do new things, to get out of my comfort zone.
Thomas: How did the name Project G come about?
Gabe: It’s a pretty funny story. It came from League of Legends. And so, basically, there's this skin bundle and it's called a project. And there's this one champion that I loved to play as and her skin is very cool. Her name is Project Vayne so I decided to take the word project and put the G in for my name, Gabe. I wanted my name to resemble a part of my life and that’s how Project G came about.
Thomas: What is your thought process when making new music?
Gabe: I kind of just get lost into the music. I go into another world and say “I’m gonna make a hit”. I’ll basically think about how I can structure this song into a masterpiece.
Thomas: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Gabe: Hmm. I see myself travelling, doing shows, enjoying life overall. And finally being stable; financially and mentally.
Thomas: What’s your end goal in music?
Gabe: Wow, deep question. I want to make my mark in terms of the world. To impact people’s lives. I want to be able to motivate them to follow their dreams. I just want to be able to motivate them in general.
Thomas: Thank you Gabe. I really appreciate your time and I’m looking forward to seeing more progress from you.
Gabe: Thanks for having me man.
