As soon as my dog hears the clanking of my keys, he already knows where we’re going. Once I put both his harness and collar on, we started making our way to Mill River Park. Walking towards the park I notice the construction site right next to the dog park. I see dogs playing inside and as soon as Rookie (my dog) hears barking, his ears perch up to listen and find where the sound is coming from. As we walk past the dog park, we start to enter the park and see the big fountain spraying water; kids, dogs, and adults are all playing in the fountain on this hot summer day. As I walked by the fountain, I couldn’t help but remember that in a couple of months the yearly installation of the ice rink would be back. One thing I did differently on this walk that I usually don’t do is look at the different plants there were around the park. As I looked closely, I realized that each plant was different; different plants for different purposes. A lot of thought went into the making of this park and looking at those plants made me realize that.
As I turn the corner and walk by the UCONN building, a little farther down I see the carousel. I take a look inside but it’s closed but I imagined all the fun I used to have riding a carousel. I make a left and keep walking until there's a turn into the park once again. I walk all the way back around until there’s a little gap on the right side of the path to go on the rocks and down to the water. Seeing as it was a hot day, Rookie decides to jump into the water and sit down in it; very refreshing for him at the time but he didn’t realize that he was going to get a bath soon because of that. Rookie looking all happy with his tongue hanging out, we started to make our way home.
